Data & map licences

Everything the atlas draws comes from somewhere, and most of those somewheres ask to be credited. This is the full list, generated from the same provenance registry the map reads, so it cannot fall out of step with what is actually on screen.

Basemap

Map tiles by Esri, under the ArcGIS basemap terms. Sources include Esri, TomTom, Garmin, FAO, NOAA, USGS, the GIS User Community, and © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. The same credit appears in the attribution control on the map itself.

Building footprints and 3D massing are derived from OpenStreetMap and carry the same ODbL terms.

Routing and place search

Reach drive-time areas and remote place lookup use ArcGIS location services and are confined to the active city. Familiar as-you-type suggestions are answered from our own project and locality corpus first. Destination typeahead can also use Photon; project-to-destination route lines use OSRM over the OpenStreetMap road network. External calls run through our cached, rate-limited server routes.

Public records

Project registrations, quarterly progress updates, Form-4 architect certificates and litigation declarations come from the Karnataka (K-RERA) and Maharashtra (MahaRERA) Real Estate Regulatory Authorities, published under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016 s.11. Facts are not copyrightable in India, per Eastern Book Company v. D.B. Modak (2008), and these are reproduced as facts, with the compilation and analysis our own.

Cadastral parcels come from Karnataka’s Bhoomi survey-parcel GIS and Maharashtra’s MahaBhuNaksha, plus the PMC revenue map. We carry the geometry and the administrative codes only: no owner names, no khata details, nothing that identifies a person. Air quality is CPCB’s real-time network via data.gov.in under the Government Open Data License – India.

Share-alike, and reusing this

Layers derived from OpenStreetMap are Derived Databases under ODbL. If you extract and publish them you must credit OpenStreetMap contributors and offer any adapted database under ODbL too. Requiring a sign-in to view them does not change that, and nothing here purports to restrict the rights ODbL gives you over OSM-derived data.

Our own contribution (the compilation, the scoring, the analysis and the writing) is not under ODbL. See the terms for what you may do with it.
